Introduction

Schools, businesses, government institutions, and residential estates carry one of their most important responsibilities when they manage security, yet many approach this responsibility without fully understanding the risks they face. In this article, André Mundell shares how decades of practical experience and hundreds of independent security risk assessments have shaped his approach as a guest speaker and educator. His presentations simplify complex security issues and help audiences understand why vulnerabilities exist and what practical steps they can take to address them.
By combining real-world insight with independent, unbiased advice, André equips attendees with the knowledge to make informed decisions and to appreciate the critical role that a professional security risk assessment plays in building effective and sustainable security.
Guest Speaker for Conferences, Security workshops, and Meetings
I am Andre Mundell, and over the years, I have had the privilege of speaking at school conferences, business gatherings, security workshops, government institutes, and residential estate forums. My approach is deliberate: I want people to leave my presentations not only informed but also capable of understanding and acting on security risks. My goal is that the message resonates long after the conference ends.
Security is often misunderstood.
Most people recognise its importance, but few truly understand why certain security risks exist or how they create opportunities for crime. That is where Alwinco comes in. Our goal is to share information! We operate as an independent security risk assessment consultancy, focusing solely on identifying security risks across security portfolios, properties, estates, and businesses. We do not supply equipment, handle installations, or earn commission from any solutions. Independence is not a slogan for us; it is the foundation of everything we do.
When I speak, my intent is educational. Attendees leave with the ability to recognise risks, understand why they exist, and know the practical steps to address them. Security is not limited to barriers, cameras, or alarms. Management styles, communication failures, and organisational culture are often at the root of security breakdowns. When we understand these elements, we can take informed action instead of merely reacting to problems as they arise.
Our perspective at Alwinco comes from the breadth and volume of our work.

Over the past 20 years, we have conducted hundreds of independent assessments across schools, estates, businesses, mines, and state institutions.
This exposure provides insights far beyond what most security managers or risk officers experience, allowing us to identify recurring weaknesses and systemic failures and to offer advice that is practical and tailored to each environment.
Being independent allows us to speak freely and objectively. Unlike in-house assessors and service providers, we remain free from the influence of contracts, commercial relationships, and reputational concerns. This independence ensures that clients receive clear, unbiased advice, whether it concerns management practices, response procedures, or communication systems.
At every conference, I emphasise a single goal: speaking the same security language.
When attendees understand the fundamentals, they recognise the value of independent security risk assessments, which are not optional; they are the foundation of effective security. These assessments identify opportunities for crime before criminals can exploit them and provide a clear roadmap for implementing practical solutions that go far beyond simply installing more equipment.
Knowledge drives action. Over the years, I have seen clients invest in systems without achieving the security they expect. Only when they understand the risks fully and have an independent assessment conducted do they see meaningful improvements. The process is both educational and practical, ensuring that every client comprehends the risk, the reasoning, and the solution.
In 2025, I was honored to receive the OSPA (outstanding security performance) Award.

A recognition that underscores the impact of our work in the security industry. But awards are not what drives me. My motivation comes from knowing that when I speak, attendees leave empowered, thinking, and capable of discussing security intelligently and appreciating the essential role of independent security risk assessment.
If you would like me to speak at your conference, whether it is a school, business, state-owned or semi-state-owned enterprise or estate forum, I invite you to get in touch. My aim is consistent: to educate, clarify, and inspire action. By the end of every session, my hope is that everyone in the room is equipped to speak the same security language. And thereby understanding how independent security risk assessments form the cornerstone of effective security.
Please feel free to email me if you would like to arrange for me to speak as a guest. Together, we can build a clear understanding of security, foster respect for its importance, and implement effective measures from the ground up.
